Monthly Musings: November 2021

Good afternoon, friends! Welcome to our Monthly Musings: November 2021 post! How the heck are you? Our house is especially chilly this morning, and despite donning my thermal leggings and fluffiest most coziest socks, I’m still feeling it. I absolutely love this time of year and definitely prefer the cold weather to the hot – but I hate how freezing the mornings are. If your house is similarly chilled, I hope this post finds you also wearing your coziest socks. Anyway, I’m so glad you’re here! This very post marks three years of these little monthly musing posts! Three whole years of sharing long winded rambling catch-ups – and I still love it! Thank you for being here!

Did you have a nice Halloween? We didn’t do as well on the scary movie front as last year, but we still managed to squeeze in a lot. Obvious classics like Scream 1+2, Halloween (1978), and The Strangers, as well as a few random ones for good measure: Paranormal Activity 4, The Gift (2000), The Craft Legacy, and The Conjuring 3. The only semi nostalgic movie we managed to watch was Sleepy Hallow, which was still good. I’ll need to compile a list for next year to ensure less slacking. Did you watch anything good?

Our monthly musings are below. I hope you find something to take away with you: a recipe, a film, or a hankering to get ahead with your Christmas baking. Enjoy!

Monthly Musings: November 2021

Covid-19 update: I don’t really know what to tell you. Things are looking bad; just the other day we had 3,726 cases. If the government introduce new restrictions I hope it doesn’t interfere with us escaping the country once more this year. In other Covid news, Boyfriend’s sweet 10-year old nephew tested positive while in hospital getting his appendix removed. From what I’ve heard, he seems to be largely asymptomatic and thankfully healthy – especially now that he’s had his appendix out. I definitely wasn’t as brave as him when I was 10!

October was somewhat slow for new recipes on the blog – I’ll admit it, I’ve been slacking. Aside from sharing these delicious Brotchen, Classic Breakfast Rolls and this mouthwatering Banoffee Pie with Honeycomb, I let you down. However! I did find the time to update some golden oldies that I refuse to leave forgotten in the archives. Seasonally appropriate Spooky Skeleton Shortbread Cookies and seasonally inappropriate Peach & Almond Frangipane Tart. In my defense, I retested the recipe in July, but it could easily be made with pears to be more autumnal!

In case you missed it, I finally shared my Ravello Travel Guide to the blog last month! The post is the first of three about visiting the Amalfi Coast – the second will cover Amalfi + Positano, and the third will be a quick pitstop post about Naples. I’m just putting the finishing touches on the Amalfi + Positano post and will be sharing it to the blog in the middle of the month. Be sure to check back!

Related: I fiiiiiinallly got around to sharing my Photo Journals from our recent trips! If you’re interested: Ravello / Amalfi + Positano / Naples / Slea Head, 2021. The photo journal section of the blog brings me so! much! happiness!

Sort of related: I recently published Walking the Camino de Santiago, A Photo Guide, part travel guide + part diary. I walked the Camino in 2014 with my best friend & it has taken me seven years to put all of the information I know about it into a blog post. It’s epic – probably the biggest post on the blog! – but it’s one of my favourite posts ever. If you’re interested, please click through! I’d love to hear any thoughts or feedback about the post!

Boyfriend’s feature film Midnight Man is finally up on YouTube! Due to the American remake – which I’m sorry to say, is terrible – he didn’t have the rights for the longest time. Now, six years later, they’ve finally reverted back to him and he’s shared the film online! It’s only 73 minutes long and, I might be biased, but it’s great! Click here to watch it on YouTube!

We went to the cinema! It was exhilarating and scary all at once. We went to see The Last Duel – neither of us loved it – and because we went very early on a Tuesday, we had the screen to ourselves! It was wonderful! I’m hopeful that we have the same luck when we go back in a few weeks to see Cry Macho and House of Gucci.

Have you seen anything good lately? We rented Another Round online and totally loved it! Definitely deserving of the Best International Film Oscar last year, for sure! We’re in a movie rut at the moment – there doesn’t seem to be anything worthy of a watch online right now. TV wise we’re still enjoying Modern Family, I’m still re-watching Gilmore Girls for the millionth time, and I’ve binged You season 3 – perhaps my favourite season yet!

Don’t judge me, but I’ve already started to earmark recipes I want to make for my Christmas cookie boxes this year. I mean that entirely metaphorically, because I would NEVER earmark a page in a book, but you know what I mean. Recipes that have caught my eye around the internet lately: Toasted Milk Powder Cookies, Gingerbread Marshmallow Cookies, Peanut Butter Cup Cookies. And yes, you better believe I’ve already started to compile my Christmas bucket list – coming atcha soonish!

Are you reading anything good at the moment? I’m currently reading a good mystery called The Murder Rule – I’ve just started it but it seems good so far. I read the latest book in the Kate Marshall series, Darkness Falls, but I didn’t love it like the others, which was sad. Any recommendations?

And there we have it, our Monthly Musings: November 2021 post. I hope you enjoyed reading, friends 🙂

Until next month!
