Winter Bucket List, 2021
Hi friends! I’m sitting here drinking my very first hot chocolate of the season, and I thought it was high time to get my winter thoughts in order. Of course, we have a strict no-Christmas until December 1st rule in our house, but I like to be prepared. No point wasting a day or two of December’s precious thirty-one trying to get my Christmas brain in order! With that in mind, I bring you: my Winter Bucket List, 2021. Basically, everything from last year’s winter bucket list still applies – carols while decorating, hot chocolates galore, homemade gifts – but there are some new items listed below, too. Can I convince you to join me? Making these lists is something I’ve really come to enjoy doing. It’s soothing, you know?
Winter Bucket List, 2021
❆ DECORATE A GINGERBREAD HOUSE
I’ve never really been into the idea of making a gingerbread house, and it’s mostly because I don’t like gingerbread. Last year, however, I learned of the joy that comes with decorating a store-bought gingerbread house. It was so therapeutic! I’ve already purchased my little gingerbread house and can’t wait to decorate it one day very soon!
❆ VISIT A CHRISTMAS MARKET
I can’t believe it – but we’re going to Bordeaux this side of Christmas! We’re jetting off in the first week of December and we’ll be visiting both Bordeaux and Saint Émilion! The Saint Émilion Christmas market won’t have started yet, but we’ll definitely be hitting up the one in Bordeaux – I’m so excited! I see a few cups of steaming mulled wine and market snacks in my near future!
❆ MAKE ALL THE FESTIVE DRINKS
I want to be drinking eggnog when I sit down to watch The Santa Clause, mulled wine when when it’s time to watch It’s a Wonderful Life, and hot chocolate with whipped cream while enjoying The Holiday. I only mulled wine once last year, and that’s truly unacceptable. More mulled, more nogged, more spiced, and generally more festive beverages!
❆ SEND CHRISTMAS CARDS
This is something I’ve never gotten around to, but no more! I’ve always wanted to be one of those households that has loads of Christmas cards hung on string across their mantle, and how can I expect to receive any if I don’t send any!? Making it happen!
❆ CHRISTMAS BAKING!
My Christmas baking list is already looking slightly too lengthy to manage, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! I’m really looking forward to making Christmas Cookie Boxes again this year – I’ve even secured my tins already! My favourite source for all things cute to bake at Christmas is Amy, and her blog is choco-bloc with amazing ideas! Other festive bakes include: Kladdkaka, Orange & Almond Cake with Cranberry Glaze, and Cinnamon Sugared Almonds.
❆ WATCH ALL THE CHRISTMAS FILMS
It goes without saying that I will never not be trying to fit as many Christmas movies into the month of December as possible. Obviously, there’ll my fave classics: National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, It’s a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, and The Holiday. Those are my mainstays, but my usual backups include The Santa Clause, Home Alone, Elf, and The Grinch. This year, I’m looking to branch out a little and include Love Actually, The Princess Switch 1-3, Love Hard, and maybe Meet Me In St. Louis. Also, Titanic and The Borrowers – neither of which are Christmas films, but hey.
❆ BUILD A SNOWMAN
I don’t claim to be a weather oracle or anything, but I am friends with one, and she says it’s going to snow this winter! Ideally a nice sprinkling of snow would grace us on Christmas morning, but I’ll be happy with a post-Christmas snow instead. Either way, a snowman will be built!
❆ CHRISTMAS CRAFTS
I love a good Christmas craft! I’ve already started making some adorable little winter hat decorations according to Linda’s great tutorial – they’re so cute! She also has a dried orange garland DIY post that is right up my craft alley. I plan on attaching both of the above to my gift wrapping situation for added cuteness.
❆ BE AS FESTIVE AS CAN BE!
As in: really and truly be as sickeningly over the top merry as I can muster. Christmas music, ugly snowman jumpers, Christmas niceties and an overall festive cheer. To help with this I’ll be wearing my Christmas tree earrings as much as possible, and also my new cute adorable reindeer earrings. As festive as can be!
And there we have it: my Winter Bucket List, 2021! Are you making a winter bucket list this year? It really helps me to get my festive brain in proper order. What’s on your list?
Fa la la!
