Monthly Musings: July 2022
Hallo aus Köln! Boyfriend & I are on the very last stop of our trip, and oh man it’s been wonderful! My heart has been restored to proper working order after visiting Tuscany again, and I feel like I’m floating on cloud nine! We’ve been indulging ourselves in every aspect of the word. Pastries galore, chilling by the pool, all the actual food we could lay our hands on, some light tourist-ing, and plenty of Aperol spritzes! Not to mention a small mountain of gelato, and, since we arrived in Cologne: Kölsch; I never want to go home! I’m stopping by for just the briefest of moments to share our Monthly Musings: July 2022 post. I only have a second, and then I’m off out exploring with Boyfriend; our last chance before flying home later today. Let’s!
What follows is a rather scaled back version of our regular monthly ramblings. A big announcement, a few thoughts that occurred to me pool-side, and some good old fashioned holiday bragging. Enjoy!

We’re engaged! On Saturday July 2nd, Boyfriend asked me to marry him – and after my initial reaction of “this is not a funny joke”, I said yes! We’re thrilled and gosh I can’t wait to celebrate with family and friends as soon as we’re home

Covid-19 update: Boyfriend finally bit the dust and contracted the virus while here in Italy. Thankfully, at the time, we were tucked away in our own little apartment in the Tuscan hills, so he was able to isolate & rest. He’s feeling almost 100% back to himself, but with some lingering sore throat issues and a diminished sense of smell/taste. Miraculously, I’ve managed to evade it thus far..

Before setting off on our trip, I decided it would be handy to own a selfie stick/tripod with a Bluetooth remote. I bought this one on Amazon and love it! Yes, it’s mildly embarrassing when you first whip it out, but it’s totally worth it in the end! #noshame.

In case you missed it: Strawberry Cheesecake Parfaits hit the blog a few weeks ago! They’re the no-bake dessert of my hot summer dreams, and they’re so simple to whip up!
*
I’m bursting to tell you all about our trip, I can barely wait to write the guides when we’re home! Please allow me to share a quick sentence or two about the wonderful places we’ve been lucky enough to visit. I’ll try not to make you too jealous 😉

Bologna & Florence are always fantastic, but this time we made an effort to go to a few new-to-us places and discovered some real gems! Underrated frescos in small churches, the butter chicken of our dreams, and a wonderfully embarrassing tourist train ride.
*
San Donato in Poggio was so relaxing; it’s literally one strip of street in the middle of the Tuscan hills, with nothing to do all day except eat, relax, and repeat – bliss!
*
We didn’t make it to San Marino this time around, thinking instead that we’d venture to Modena butttt after the engagement we decided we’d like to spend more time in Bologna. If the city didn’t already hold a special place in our hearts, it sure does now!
*
And now we’re in Cologne! Eating our way around, following in Bourdain’s footsteps, and doing some very light tourist-ing while we’re at it. This is truly the trip that keeps on giving!

And there we have it, Monthly Musings: July 2022! Short, sweet, and hopefully not too smug. Let’s catch up again in a few weeks, okay? Until then, I hope you’re finding some time to get out and work on your summer freckles!
My love to you,
Vicki xo
