Hello friends! Happy Sunday! I hope this finds you caffeinated, cozy, and chill-axing. I’m dropping by for the briefest of moments to share our Monthly Musings: March 2025 post with you. I say brief because I am currently writing this post from under a blanket on the couch, where I have been holed up in a cloud of unwellness since last Wednesday after being unexpectedly put on sick-leave for a week by my doctor. It has, honestly, been miserable and pity-party inducing — but at least it has given me a chance to a) catch-up on my favourite pastime: daytime napping, and b) rewatch the first season and a half of Gilmore Girls for the millionth time. I’m just getting to the flirting-with-Jess episodes, which are obviously the best of the original 6 seasons.
With my lack of energy in mind, please enjoy the slightly reduced listing of monthly musings below. All the usuals are there, just slightly less-so than usual: travel, books, movies, recipes, etc. Enjoy!
monthly musings: march 2025
Last month, while I was still healthy, we accidentally found ourselves redecorating our whole bedroom. It started out with the relatively simple task of us + my parents painting the ceiling… and then it somehow escalated into us deciding we may as well paint the whole dang room because everything was already covered. It sounded simple in theory, but required many more coats of paint than anticipated and took three days in total to finish. However! The room is so fresh and lovely now! We went with Deep Ocean blue for our statement wall, and a very light & bright magnolia for the others - it’s such a cozy space!

Did you have a lovey dovey loved up Valentine’s Day? Husband and I were both working all day, so we kept it pretty low-key. He surprised me with the most gorgeous bouquet of dried flowers - second only to my dried wedding bouquet! - and I showered him with his favourite triangular chocolate of choice, Toblerone. We feasted on my favourite veg out meal for dinner, homemade taco fries with homemade aioli, and watched the cheesiest rom-com we could find: Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. We also continued the love-fest with a midday pint in our local the following day. It was delightful!

I sincerely apologize for the lack of new posts last month! The weeks absolutely flew by and before I knew it it was time to share today’s post. Before being stricken with the plague, I got a good chunk of my upcoming London post written, so I’m hoping to share that before this month is out. In the meantime, please enjoy these favourites from the archives of March’s past: Five Days on the French Rivera, Nice / A Long Weekend in Luxembourg / Lyon, France: The Highlights / Italian Adventures Part I: Florence / and a very old Winter Weekend in Westport, Ireland. We were actually hoping to revisit Nice this coming May, but alas it looks like it’s not meant to be. Uyy.

Are you watching the Oscars tonight? RTE are streaming it live at midnight for the first time ever, so all of us Irish viewers have it pretty easy for the first time. In our almost 10-year relationship, we’ve only missed watching it live one time(!), so Husband and I will definitely be tuning in! My game plan is to lounge on the couch resting, watching GG, and napping all day long, go to bed for a few hours around 9:30pm, and then pray the Oscar gods will keep me awake from midnight to 3am. Cross your fingers for me!

Speaking of Oscars, before the plague took me down, we knocked a couple more ‘best picture’ nominees off our list: Conclave and Anora. I went into both of them not knowing the plotline, and I thought they were both great! Mikey Madison was absolutely can’t-take-my-eyes-off-her level of fascinating, and, in my opinion, highly deserving of an Oscar tonight! Obvz Ralph Fiennes was also amazing, but I mostly just really enjoyed all the Italian-ness of Conclave.. Sigh. I miss Italy. I have no idea what’ll nab the ‘best picture’ award, but I’d like to see A Complete Unknown take it. What are you hoping for?

Since being couchbound with the plague, our movie watching has plummeted, naturally. My brain only has the capacity to watch frivolous non-serious movies, or reruns of things I’ve already seen. Obviously GG is the easiest viewing ever, but in the evenings when I am especially drained, we’ve been rewatching The Affair — which is truly such a great show! The different viewpoints, the subtle differences between the retelling, Joshua Jackson; it’s so good! I’m open to other easy TV-shows, so hit me up using the comment box below.

Things have been rather slow around here reading-wise of late. I’m rather enjoying my current book - My Roman Year by André Aciman - but I’m just so exhausted when I get into bed that I can only manage a few pages a night. I’ll report back when I’m finished, but so far so good! What are you reading this month?

An oldie but a goodie from the archives: Ultimate Chocolate Biscuit Cake. Husband whipped this up recently and oh my lord, we totally forgot how fantastic it is! I know, I know — there’s no such thing as a bad chocolate biscuit cake. But! This is hands-down the best one we’ve ever eaten! So moreish, perfectly crumbly, not too sweet, and just dang delicious. You can thank me later.
And there we have it, Monthly Musings: March 2025! I hope you found something to take away with you — and I sincerely hope that something was the biscuit cake recipe. Let’s catch up again next month, yeah? I hope to be restored to full working health by then!
Hugs,
Vicki xo
PS, please enjoy the above photo of Bray Head from many many moons ago! I have no interesting photos from the last month to share, so I thought I’d share one of my old faves. The photo, taken back in 2016(!), has a coveted spot on our fridge — and now you can share in its delightfulness also!
