Banana & Nutella Porridge
I’ve been going through a porridge phase lately. I was never much of a fan, it was always too bland for my liking & I couldn’t be bothered to wait for it to cook. But now I’m like a woman possessed. I’m on a mission to make the best porridge possible. I’m constantly trying to think up new flavour combinations & toppings. It has become a problem.
I’ve already worked out the perfect base recipe – porridge oats, milk, and cinnamon. Now for the experimentation with toppings. Who doesn’t love a good topping – be it fruit, syrup, nuts, anything!? So every topping ideally has to work well with the perfect base. Because I’m not budging on the perfect base. End of story.
Obviously, the first topping I tried out was banana & Nutella. Quite simply, it was beautiful. The big dollop of Nutella melted with the heat & every single bite was filled with chocolatey goodness. What more could you want from a healthy-ish breakfast?
Serves 1
Ingredients
For the perfect porridge base:
1/3 cup of porridge oats
4-5 dashes of cinnamon
½ cup of milk
For the Banana & Nutella topping:
½ banana, cut up into slices
1 teaspoon of Nutella
Method
In a bowl, mix together the porridge oats & the cinnamon. Add in the milk, along with half of the banana, & stir around again.
Place in the microwave, on high, for a minute & a half. Take the porridge out, give it a good stir about & then return to the microwave for one more minute. If the porridge is still too runny, put it into the microwave until desired consistency is reached. I like mine when it’s creamy.
Remove the porridge from the microwave. Top with the remaining banana chunks & the dollop of Nutella & then stir it around for chocolatey goodness in each bite.
