Monthly Musings: November 2018
Hello friends!
This is the first post in a new series I’ve been wanting to try out for ages now & I’m so excited it’s finally time to share it with you! I thought it would be fun if we took a step back from everything that we normally talk about & just take a second to catch up and share some thoughts. I’m really intrigued to know how you feel about these posts, so let me know what you think!
I’m equal parts happy that one of my favourite months has arrived and also terrified at how fast this year has flown by. We’re hurtling head first towards the end of the year, so let’s just take a breather and slow things down a bit. Make yourself some coffee, get set up in your favourite seat, and enjoy this peek inside my head this fine Friday.
Monthly Musings: November 2018
November is a busy birthday month in my family, so if you’re looking for me you can find me a) whipping up everyone’s favourite chocolate birthday cake or b) stress thinking of the most thoughtful perfect gifts for both my mother and sister. Send inspiration and doughnuts.
*
It’s officially time to start thinking about Christmas presents! I’m going to whip up an extra large batch of Homemade Vanilla Extract this weekend & gift it to all of my favourite people & everyone in between.
*
I’m low key obsessed with my latest cookbook purchase: Sister Pie. The way Lisa writes has me genuinely excited to jump in the kitchen & make pie, the only problem is choosing which one to try first! I’m thinking either the Salted Maple or the Buttermilk Pumpkin Streusel.
*
Another recent cookbook purchase which has already brought so much joy into our lives: The Cookie Book. I think I waited for about 4 hours before running straight into the kitchen to bake up a batch of Rebecca’s Super Peanut-y Peanut Butter Cookies. The words ‘super peanut-y’ spoke to my soul, & I thank the lord every day for the big bag of frozen dough nestled into the darkest corner of my freezer every day. Recipe coming atcha real soon!
*
The cookbook that I find myself reaching for constantly this time of year: Back Pocket Pasta. It’s jam packed with exactly the right type of comforting dishes that I’m craving this time of year. Side note: Boyfriend & I recently came across a pasta shape called Zita – which kind of resembles a fatter version of bucatini – and we’re looking for inspiration on what to make with it, do you have any ideas?
*
What are you reading at the moment? I’m very much in need of some book recommendations. I just started reading Everything I Never Told You, which is both easy to read and sad + intriguing at the same time.
*
Boyfriend, Sister & I are fresh off the plane from a quick trip to Munich. A post about our gallivanting will be hitting the blog next week, so be sure to check back! Warning: there is a lot of eating and beer drinking.
*
In case you missed it – there’s a Pear Spice Cake situation on the blog as of last week. The cake is lathered with a brown butter frosting & finished off with a dark chocolate drip. The recipe literally took me three years to perfect, so you can trust that it is worthy of your time.
*
A dinner that we’ve had on repeat around here for a while: Christina’s Honey Garlic Chicken Thighs. It’s better than anything you can get from a takeaway and comes together in a cinch.
*
I’ve had my eye on this environmentally friendly raincoat from Rockholly for a while now & I think it’s about time I splurged.
*
Let’s revisit an oldie that I damn near forgot about: Homemade Speculoos Spread. It’s spiced with all those wintry flavours we love & I can’t help thinking it’d make a wonderful frosting for a cake. (Please excuse the terrible post/photographs.)
I hope this month treats you well and that you get out to enjoy some of that fresh November air! Thanks for stopping by for my Monthly Musings November 2018 post.
Hugs,
Vicki xo
