Banana Cupcakes with Nutella & Peanut Butter

Welcome to Day 3 of Banana Week! Before we begin I feel I have to inform you, this one’s a good one. In order to keep things interesting this week, I had to make sure I had some variety, right? So on Day 1 we had the Caramelized Banana & Coffee Cake with a Caramel-Cream Filling, Day 2 was the Maple & Walnut Banana Bread, & now here we are with these awesome cupcakes. I know, you can thank me when I get back from Croatia.

Day 3 of Banana Week was actually originally meant to be a Banana & Toffee Cheesecake, but it failed miserably. However, I’m kind of glad that it didn’t work out, because it meant that I got to make these cupcakes. Actually, while we’re here, would you consider these as cupcakes or muffins? Baking Joy calls them cupcakes, but there’s no frosting on them, so I can’t be sure if that title works. But then there’s Nutella & peanut butter swirled through the top, does that count as a frosting? It doesn’t sit well with me, I must confess. They’re more like a muffin cupcake hybrid.

Whatever you want to call them, they are every bit as delicious as a muffin cupcake hybrid sounds. With the extra bonus of the banana flavour. I mean, perfection or what? Oh & we can’t forget about the Nutella & peanut butter swirls cutting through the whole thing. Baking Joy only swirled Nutella through her hybrids, but I wanted to see what it would be like with peanut butter. Well, that’s not true. I knew it’d be good, but I just wanted to see how good. I’m only sorry I didn’t make a few that were swirled with both Nutella AND peanut butter. At least now I have an excuse to make these again.

These hybrids are my idea of the perfect snack. They’re banana flavoured, & we all know I love bananas, they’re laced with either Nutella, which I have to admit I eat every single day, or peanut butter, & I almost forgot to mention that they have a little sprinkling of cinnamon thrown in too, because why not? Hello perfect snack to eat at any time of the day, I have just met you & I love you, now get in my belly.

Seriously though, these are good. Almost too good. They’re surprisingly light & fluffy, probably from the baking soda & self-raising flour, & they seem to just melt away on your tongue. & the banana flavour. Oh god, it’s good. Kinda like banana bread, except lighter & better. & then you get the little hint of cinnamon & you start smiling & then you take another bite & you experience what it feels like to be in a world made of Nutella. & let me tell you, that’s a pretty good place to be. Now, what are you waiting for? There’s simple & delicious cupcakes waiting to be made!
